Scope of this privacy policy

This policy explains how The Travels Tip handles personal information when you browse the publication, create or secure an account, use social sign-in, save or follow content, comment, keep notes, subscribe to newsletters, contact us, apply to become a Writer or use billing features that the publication has enabled.

Information you provide directly

Depending on the feature, we may process your name, username, email address, profile image, biography, location, website, newsletter choices, comments, private notes, contact messages, Writer application information, billing correspondence and other information you choose to submit.

Passwords, social identities and account security

Local account passwords are stored as password hashes rather than readable passwords. If you register, sign in or link an account with Google, Facebook or LinkedIn, the CMS stores the provider name, the provider's account identifier and profile information returned for the authorized sign-in, such as an email address, display name or profile image when the provider supplies it.

The CMS also records information needed to protect accounts, including email-verification state, password-reset records, authenticator-MFA state, recovery-code state, trusted-browser/session information, authentication version, security events and recent sign-in activity. A social-only account can add a local password after a recent verification with an identity already linked to that same account.

Reader activity and preferences

Signed-in readers may store saved and liked articles, followed Categories or Authors, recently viewed items, notification preferences, comments and private notes so those features can appear in the account dashboard. Public Author information is separate from ordinary private Reader account data.

Newsletters and email delivery

Newsletter subscriptions use the email address, subscription status, selected newsletter/frequency and delivery history needed to provide the service, honour confirmation or unsubscribe choices and investigate failed delivery. Transactional security and account messages may also be queued and recorded for operational delivery.

Writer applications, editorial records and publication

Writer applicants may provide experience, expertise, biography and writing samples. Approved contributors can have a public Author identity and an editorial history connected to submitted or published work. Published bylines and minimum editorial/audit records can need to remain even after a private account is closed so the publication does not erase the accountability record of already-published work.

Payments and Writer plans

When paid Writer plans are enabled, the CMS can record offers, subscriptions, checkout orders, invoices, payment/refund status and reconciliation history. Full payment credentials should be handled by the configured payment provider or institution rather than stored in ordinary CMS content fields.

Technical data, cookies, analytics and advertising measurement

Essential session/security identifiers support authentication, CSRF protection, trusted-browser features and basic site operation. The public site can also use a signed view identifier to reduce duplicate article-view counting. Optional analytics and advertising measurement remain subject to the site's consent configuration; when consent is required, those optional scripts stay off until the visitor accepts them.

For directly managed sponsored or affiliate inventory, the CMS can record aggregate campaign/placement delivery such as impressions or outbound clicks. Those first-party commercial counters are designed for delivery reporting rather than to create a personal advertising profile from an account email or private profile.

Service providers and external platforms

Hosting, email, authentication, CAPTCHA, analytics, payment and other configured providers can process information needed to deliver their service. Google, Meta/Facebook, LinkedIn and other external platforms operate their own accounts, cookies and privacy practices when you visit or authenticate with them.

Data export, deletion and retention

Signed-in users can use the available Privacy controls to download account data and request permanent account closure. Private account data is deleted or anonymized where the CMS can safely do so. Limited published editorial attribution, financial records, fraud/security evidence and audit history may be retained when needed for publication integrity, accounting, dispute resolution, security or legal obligations.

Your choices and requests

You can manage newsletter preferences, linked sign-in methods, account security and available privacy controls from your account. Depending on your location and applicable law, additional rights may apply. Use the privacy/contact route for a request that cannot be completed through self-service controls; identity verification may be required before sensitive account data is disclosed or deleted.

Children

The publication is not intended to collect personal information from children who cannot lawfully consent to the relevant online service in their jurisdiction. A parent or guardian who believes a child supplied personal information should contact the privacy route.

Policy updates

We update this page when the publication materially changes its account, tracking, commercial or data-handling features. The published update date identifies the current version. This policy describes the live The Travels Tip service; it is not a substitute for legal advice about rights that may apply in a particular jurisdiction.
